Kemper through Vantage Point Risk
What we can quote with Kemper, what Kemper publishes about its own products and discounts, where availability stops, and what we will not promise you. This is an access page, not a review.

Kemper describes itself as one of the nation's specialized insurers, with approximately $12 billion in assets, more than 4.6 million policies in force, roughly 24,200 agents and brokers, and about 7,500 employees, operating through its Kemper Auto and Kemper Life brands (Kemper, Quick Facts, accessed August 5, 2026). On the same page Kemper publishes its AM Best ratings as A- (Excellent) for the Kemper Property and Casualty Group and A- (Excellent) for the Kemper Life Group. Financial strength ratings get reviewed and change, so if that rating matters to your decision, check it at the source rather than taking a date-stamped number from any agency page, ours included.
Why people end up on this page
Two situations, mostly. Either you had a lapse, a ticket, an accident or a nonrenewal on your auto policy and somebody said Kemper is a market that still looks at drivers in that position. Or you own a small business with vehicles, and you are trying to find out whether we can put commercial auto with them.
There is a third: you have an older note or an old page somewhere saying Kemper is a wholesale market for us. That is no longer accurate. The appointment is direct.
What the Kemper appointment actually means
A direct appointment means Kemper authorized our agency to quote and submit business to Kemper, in every state we hold a license in. We handle the submission, we see the underwriting response, and we stay on the file. Nobody sits in the middle.
It also does not make us a Kemper office. We are independent. We do not run Kemper's website, we cannot overrule a Kemper underwriter, and we quote Kemper against our other markets rather than defaulting to it. Payment on anything we place is either pay in full or financed, depending on what the carrier offers on that policy.
What we can quote with Kemper
Kemper publishes its product menu on its own site. It runs like this (Kemper, Insurance Products, accessed August 5, 2026):
Two of those need translating. A business owners policy, usually shortened to BOP, bundles property and general liability for a small business into one policy. A graded death benefit life policy pays a reduced amount if death occurs during the first few policy years, which is how carriers offer life cover to people who would not qualify for a fully underwritten policy. Kemper also publishes a consumer article on Mexico car insurance for tourists, and it is worth reading if you drive south of the border. Kemper's point there is that a United States auto policy generally doesn't meet Mexican requirements and that you have to buy liability cover from a licensed Mexican insurer, which an agent can help you arrange (Kemper, Mexico Car Insurance for Tourists, February 1, 2024, accessed August 5, 2026). That is guidance from Kemper, not a Kemper policy.
What is not on the list matters too. There is no homeowners product in Kemper's published menu. Kemper's legacy property URL now redirects to Infinity Insurance Agency, a Kemper agency brand, and Infinity says on that page that it places homeowners coverage through non-affiliated insurance companies (Infinity Insurance Agency, Homeowners and Property Insurance, reached from Kemper's site, accessed August 5, 2026). So we don't present home insurance as a Kemper product. If you need homeowners insurance, we will quote it with a property market and tell you which one. Infinity's own personal auto menu does list SR-22 filings, which is the certificate a state requires from some drivers as proof of financial responsibility.
On our side, the Kemper menu maps to auto insurance, motorcycle insurance, ATV insurance, boat insurance, commercial auto, general liability, the business owners policy and life insurance.
The discount categories Kemper publishes
Kemper publishes its auto discount list without percentages, so there are none to report here and none to guess at. The categories, and what Kemper says qualifies you (Kemper, Discounts and Savings, accessed August 5, 2026):
- Kemper Co-Pilot. A telematics program. Drivers new to Kemper in select states can get a discount for sharing driving habits through a mobile app. Select states means exactly that, so ask before assuming.
- Advance Quote. For taking a quote and buying it before the effective date shown on the quote. Shopping early has value.
- Proof of Prior Insurance. For drivers who have had auto coverage before. Keep your old card or declarations page.
- Paid-in-Full. For paying the premium up front instead of monthly.
- Multi-Car. For insuring more than one vehicle in the household on one policy.
- Defensive Driving Course. Kemper says to ask an independent agent about qualifying courses and requirements, which is a fair signal that the rules vary by state.
- Good Student. Full-time students with a 3.0 grade point average or higher.
- Homeowner. For when you or someone on the auto policy holds a homeowners policy and the address on that policy matches the address on the auto policy. Kemper puts the address match in writing, so check it before you assume the discount applies.
Kemper attaches its own caution to that list, and it is worth repeating in full: all statements are subject to the terms, exclusions and conditions of the applicable policy, current policy contract language prevails, products and discounts are not available in all states or in all underwriting companies, coverage depends on meeting underwriting qualifications and state availability, and other terms and exclusions may apply.
Who might be worth quoting with Kemper
Framed carefully, because we are describing what Kemper says about itself, not making a prediction about your file.
- Drivers who have had coverage problems in the past. Kemper's own personal auto page says it aims to help those drivers get back on the road, which is a clearer statement of appetite than most carriers publish.
- Drivers coming off a lapse who can produce evidence of prior insurance.
- Households with more than one vehicle, or with a full-time student carrying a 3.0 or better.
- Small businesses that need commercial auto, general liability or a business owners policy in one place.
- People who want life cover and have been declined elsewhere, given the graded death benefit product.
- Owners of a motorcycle, ATV, snowmobile or boat who want the specialty piece quoted alongside the car.
If your file is a clean-record household with a valuable home, Kemper is probably not where the conversation starts. We will tell you that rather than quoting it for the sake of a longer list.
Availability, and what we cannot promise
California is one of the states in Kemper's own consumer quote selector, so Kemper sells personal auto to California drivers (Kemper home page, accessed August 5, 2026). That is the only state-level statement we will make from Kemper's public material, because a consumer quote tool is not a map of where an agency can place business.
We hold the appointment in all twelve states we are licensed in: Oregon, California, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico and Hawaii. Kemper decides where each product is actually sold, and Kemper states in its own materials that products, services and discounts are not available in all states or in all underwriting companies, and that products and prices differ across its business segments.
So the appointment is the door. What is behind it depends on your state, the product, and the underwriting company Kemper uses there. Coverage is subject to policy terms, underwriting and availability. Nothing on this page is an offer of coverage, a promise of eligibility, or a guarantee of placement.
How Kemper compares to the other markets we hold
Conceptually, and with no winner declared, because there is not one.
Kemper's center of gravity is auto, personal and commercial, plus life and a spread of specialty lines. That is a different shape from a property-led carrier. Where a standard market may decline a driver with a lapse or a recent at-fault accident, a specialty auto writer is built to look at that file. The trade is usually a narrower product set and no meaningful home offering.
Mercury is personal lines with deep California property capability. Travelers and Nationwide are broad national carriers across personal and commercial. Safeco, now under Liberty Mutual personal insurance, is a long-standing independent agent brand. Lemonade is app-first, with its own state-by-state footprint. The Hartford leans commercial.
Which one is worth a submission depends on the driving records, the vehicles, the business and where you live. Sorting that out is the job. If Kemper is not the right answer, we will say so and start from a coverage comparison instead.
Claims and policy service
Kemper handles its own claims. You can report an auto, auto glass, roadside, towing, property or Kemper Life claim through Kemper's claims page. New claims for auto, home and commercial auto go to 800-353-6737, Monday to Friday 8:00am to 7:00pm Central and Saturday 11:00am to 6:00pm Central. Policies written through American Access Casualty use 630-645-7755 (Kemper, Report a Claim, accessed August 5, 2026). Kemper says to have the policyholder name, the policy number, a description of the incident and the date and time ready before you call.
Kemper also publishes repair shop lookup and separate claims help pages for auto, life, and accident and health. For payments and policy documents, use Kemper's account portal. If your policy is serviced through our office and you would rather start with a person, use the Service Center or find direct numbers in our carrier directory.

Kemper questions we actually get
Is Kemper a direct appointment, or does it come through a wholesaler?
Can you quote Kemper for my home?
I have had a lapse in coverage or a rough driving record. Is Kemper worth trying?
Which states can you actually quote Kemper in?
How do I file a Kemper claim?
Vantage Point Risk is an independent insurance agency and is not Kemper. Kemper names and marks belong to Kemper Corporation. Carrier availability, coverage options, eligibility, pricing, and underwriting decisions vary by state, coverage type, driving records, business operations, claims history, and carrier appetite. Coverage is subject to policy terms, underwriting, and availability. Mention of an insurance company does not guarantee availability, eligibility, or placement with that company.
