Certificate of Insurance

A certificate of insurance is a one-page document that summarizes your policies, the coverage types, limits, and dates, for a third party such as a landlord, client, or vendor. It is proof that coverage exists, but it does not change your policy or, by itself, grant the holder rights under it.

How it shows up

Businesses provide certificates before a lease starts, before work begins, or to satisfy a vendor or lender. When a contract also requires additional insured or waiver wording, those are separate endorsements a certificate can reference but does not create.
